The Voyager 2 spacecraft was launched August 20, 1977. Voyager 2 continues to return data about the outer planets and solar and interstellar winds. The craft has traveled billions of miles through the planets toward interstellar space and is now some 8 billion miles from the sun. "Traveling at the speed of light," NASA says, "a signal from the ground takes about 12.8 hours to reach the spacecraft."
