Statistics Definition

A mathematical science pertaining to the collection, analysis, interpretation or explanation, and presentation or data, it is applicable to a wide variety of academic discipline, from the physical and social science to the humanities. Statistics are also used for making informed decisions and sometimes misused intentionally or accidentally.

 

The word statistics is also the plural of statistic (singular), which refers to the result of applying a statistical algorithm to a set of data, as in economic statistics or any type of statistic, etc…

Greenspan was sometimes so hard to understand that Motley Fool radio show included a game called “what Did the Fed Chief Say?”, where contestants were challenged to interpret snippets of Greenspan’s speeches. Greenspan mocked his own speaking style in 1988 when he said, “I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you’ve probably misunderstood what I said.” To a central banker, being unclear is often an advantage since it grants more flexibility: if he is too predictable.
