When you’re just starting up and you’ve got more time than you do capital, you MUST have passion and drive both individually and collectively as a team! Around the time BizzFlip.com was soon to launch, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Ben Lutch, one of the original founders of one-time mega search engine Excite.com. He told me the tale of 5 Stanford computer geeks living and working out of an old Cupertino tract house. In order to “stretch their dollar” as Lutch put it, they survived off of Top Ramen noodles, rice and beans which were almost always bought in bulk. Now, the value gained by living together as well as the scaling back on all luxurious living, far surpassed the obvious, like being able to pay the bills. Lutch stressed just how pivotal camaraderie is when starting up any project or business consisting of a team. Camaraderie is what gets partners through the lows inevitably experienced by every entrepreneur. Camaraderie is what keeps partners working late into the night often times without seeing a penny. Camaraderie is what a team experiences when together they reflect on the path they’ve travelled so far and as well as prepare for the journey ahead. Without camaraderie, you can get lucky and seemingly become successful, but I’ll tell you something for sure, you won’t feel successful !
